Ellen first appears after the boys retrieve an old message off their father's cell phone.  She becomes sort of a surrogate mother figure throughout Season 2 of the show.   Even though she harbor some ill feelings towards John for the death of her husband, Bill Harvelle.

Ellen has one daughter, Joanna Beth, that she is trying hard to keep out of the hunter business by keeping her close as a waitress in her bar.
