In mythology Lilith two main roles appear to be "destroyer of children and seducer of men" that is why she is mostly seen as a young girl under the age of 13.  She is also higher up in the demon heirchy then Azazel making her the closes demon we've seen to Lucifer.  Who she is trying to release from the bowls of hell in Season 4 by breaking the seals holding him there.

Lilith possesses the power to wield telekinesis as well as superhuman strength, most likely at higher levels than that of a regular demon.   She can also cause an explosion of light to eminate from her hand, which Sam is immune too.  Her last power seems to be removing demons from their host bodies, this is proven when she ejects Ruby from her blond host body and takes it over in "No Rest for the Wicked".
